Utopia Students, Staff, Parents and Community, 
As we begin the final six weeks grading cycle, we will transition to a revised version of our current grading policy as outlined below. Utopia ISD graciously thanks you for your continuous support and flexibility as we have had to make recent adjustments to enhance safety measures.  
We understand the C-19 outbreak has brought about a number of changes in our everyday world. We applaud the efforts made by both our teachers and our families at home to support the continuation of learning. We understand each individual family has their own unique situation, and we respect that each of you are trying to find a new balanced norm for your families. Our hope is this revised policy will work to alleviate any stressors the new distance learning could be adding to your family. We acknowledge each family is in a different situation. This policy revision is intended to be equitable, such that all students will continue to have the opportunity to continue their learning. Yet, students will not be penalized for their level of mastery due to the changes that have occured with our traditional direct teacher in-class instruction.  
Students have already received an average for the 4th and 5th six weeks grading cycles of this semester. For the 6th six weeks, teachers will continue to send academic assignments home to provide opportunities for learning. Out of respect for your unique family needs, you will complete as much of the assignments as possible. Our academic year ends May 15th; therefore, academics are expected to continue through that date. The following rubric will be used:  

For the final grading cycle (if we are still out of school): At the close of the 6th six weeks, teachers will review the earned average from this grading cycle. Teachers will then calculate an average grade from the 4th and 5th six weeks. This combination average may be used in lieu of the students 6th six weeks average if it better represents the students grade level ability. If the student would like to improve their 6th six weeks average, the students need to continue to submit assignments to the teacher. Please note, If we are still in distance/at-home learning, ALL final exams will be exempted for all students.  
Teachers will check-in with students and/or parents twice weekly, either by phone, text, email, or etc. .  Teachers will be available to help with any academic questions the parents may have to continue instructional continuity.  Please do not hesitate to contact your teacher or Mr. Hernandez or Mrs. Milam if you have questions or concerns.  The next projected drop off date of materials is April 20 for all assignments that need to be turned in for a grade.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this urgent time.
